Hardware & Software of a Computer

Hardware & Software of a Computer

An overview of computer hardware and software is described with examples.

 Hardware:

Computer hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system. These include the components that you can see and touch, such as the keyboard, monitor, CPU, motherboard, hard drive, and memory. Here are some examples of hardware components:

  1. Central Processing Unit (CPU): This is the brain of the computer and performs most of the processing tasks.

  2. Motherboard: This is the main circuit board that connects all components.

  3. Random Access Memory (RAM): This is a type of memory that the computer uses to temporarily store data while running.

  4. Hard Drive: This component stores all your data and programs.

  5. Power Supply Unit (PSU): This component provides power to the computer.

  6. Keyboard and Mouse: These input devices allow you to interact with the computer.

  7. Monitor: This is the output device that displays the output from the computer.

Software

Software is a set of instructions that tell the computer what to do. It's a non-physical component of a computer system. There are two main types of software: system software and application software.

  1. System Software: This software manages the computer's resources and provides a platform for application software to run. Examples include operating systems (such as Windows or macOS) and device drivers.

  2. Application Software: This type of software is designed to perform specific tasks or functions. Examples include word processing programs (such as Microsoft Word), photo editing software (such as Adobe Photoshop), and web browsers (such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).

Computer hardware and software work together to create a functional computer system. Hardware components are the physical components that make up the computer, while software provides the instructions for the hardware to follow.
